Remember when I told you that Brooke’s mother is one of my favorite co-conspirators? Well, imagine how thrilled I was to get to work with the fabulous Debbie again on her daughter Jennifer’s wedding.
Jennifer’s wedding took place in California in the Century Plaza Hotel. The ceremony room was accented with pink and white trees overflowing with blossoms, while the chairs and walls were draped with soft fabric to create a romantic, elegant look. Jennifer and her groom stood under a chuppah covered in Swarovski crystals, orchids and roses.
For the reception, Debbie (who loves conceptual art) had the fabulous idea of using swans as the motif, so I created floral swan sculptures to dot different tables across the room. To balance out the look, the tables without swans had umbrellas with raining crystals and an abundance of flowers.
This wedding was a great example of how a mother and daughter can work together and create something fabulous as a team. Tell me, what’s one moment in your life where you worked together with your mother and created something fantastic?

Today is so full of sunshine that I wanted to highlight a bride whose wedding reminded me of a sunny, spring day on what was actually a very cold, winter day. I used a mixture of corals, pinks and creams to create Marissa’s ceremony decor, while the reception was outfitted in deep reds and a hint of purple.
We also added personalized touches like the floral sculpture of monkeys that greeted friends and family at the entrance, which matched the tiny monkeys that decorated the wedding cake (and the monkeys featured on the wedding invites). The wedding took place in the Pierre Hotel in New York city. Marissa was such a beautiful, amazing bride.
Tell me, did you get married (if you’re married) in the spring, summer, winter or fall? And why?

After having Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones as clients for years, I had such great joy when they called me to design a first-class birthday party. (They were born on the same day! Can you believe it? Of course they were destined for each other.)
They’ve been married for years, and to this day, you can still see how much they are madly in love. It was one of the most fun birthday bashes I’ve ever designed.
Catherine and I getting down on the dance floor.
By the way, I recently saw A Little Night Music on Broadway with my dearest friends from Jakarta, the beautiful Tania and her equally beautiful mother Mrs. Meity, Abel, the brilliant designer Biyan, Karen and friends, and let me tell you—Catherine is an AMAZING performer. It was such a breath-taking experience getting to watch her on stage. I also cannot wait to see the sequel to Wall Street, starring her fabulous husband.
Now, I’d love to hear from you. If you’re in a relationship, what is one thing you love about your significant other? Or, for those lovely singles, tell me about one couple you know who are still madly in love after many years.

The poet William Wordsworth said,
Look for the stars, you’ll say that there are none;
Look up a second time, and, one by one,
You mark them twinkling out with silvery light,
And wonder how they could elude the sight!
Today’s bride spotlight is all about finding true love the second time around. I adore repeat business, especially when it’s a combination of a mother and bride you’ve fallen in love with. So, it was with great surprise that I received a call from Jessica and her mom Tamara about doing a second wedding for Jessica.
Jessica and her dream man
Jessica and Tamara have such impeccable taste, and for this second wedding it was like playing out the great American love story. Jessica found her dream man, and it ended up being a happily emotional day. (She looked amazing, by the way).
Some people may feel superstitious about using the same vendors twice, but I was thrilled at the chance to work with this bride and mom all over again. And, I have to say, while the first wedding was fun, the second one was an ultimate blast to work on.
I always think that second weddings should be even more fabulous than the first. What do you think?

People always ask me if I can predict whether a marriage will work out or not, and I always answer by saying that I never think that way. What I concentrate on is the joy the bride and the groom have in that moment. Having had experience in being in so many relationships myself, I have to say that each relationship is a learning lesson.
As Melissa commented on the last Bride Spotlight I wrote, “Even if something ends, it does not mean that you did not wait for ‘the one.’ Romance is often a much deeper thing than what we think when we first start out.”
I wanted to feature this wonderful bride today because it had to be the most fun wedding I’ve ever worked on. (I even got to meet the best man, Michael Jackson).
This was also, by far, one of the most publicized weddings I’ve ever worked on. I had worked with Liza previously so I had some experience with what she wanted.
What’s the biggest learning lesson you’ve ever had from a previous relationship? I’d love to know.
