Since its inception, the Club has changed the landscape of Fort Worth and the gardening world. The mission of the Fort Worth Garden Club is to cultivate a broader knowledge of gardening, horticulture and design, to advocate for the protection of the environment and to support the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.

Highlights of the organization's history and influence including assuming, at the invitation of the Fort Worth Park Board, the care of a Garden Center within the city's new Rock Springs horticulture building, resulting in the first garden center of its kind in Texas in 1935. In 1964, the Garden Club undertook the redesign of a garden behind the Rock Spring Building and transformed it into a Fragrance Garden for the visually impaired (also called the Lighthouse Court). In 1974, the 7.5 acre Japanese Garden was dedicated , culminating a decades-long fundraising effort by the Garden Club. The Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center and Conservatory, dedicated in 1986, and the Dorothea Leonhardt Lecture Hall represent a $7.5 million gift from the Fort Worth Garden Club to the community. The Fort Worth Botanic Garden's propose Children’s Garden is the most recent project embraced by the Fort Worth Garden Club.
