Yes folks, I too have been guilty of a little something called jealousy. As humans, we pray and hope for the best opportunities to come to us, yet when we learn of someone else achieving them we become resentful. I have come to realize that I most indulge in jealousy when I am fearful, fearful that I will not get what I want. Sometimes we are too frightful to go for an opportunity, yet we become frustrated if someone else goes for it.
Jealousy has always been one of my biggest weaknesses, yet I have learned to treat it as a friend giving me a lesson in “tough love”. Whenever my friend jealousy shows up, I know that I have to ask myself “ What am I afraid of right now?” I am reminded of this quote by David Richo:
Fear follows us all our lives, that is a human condition
Fear sometimes catches up with us, that is an occasional predicament
Fear never has to stop us, that is the purpose of our work.
So the next time you are feeling a bit of jealousy, stop for a moment and think about how to deal with one of your fears. Remember, there is more than enough for all of us.
How do you let go of your jealousy?
