It’s my opinion: We should not waste our clients time as well as ours, If their budget is not right, we should say so.
I still get butterflies of excitement, when I get that first call from a client, that wants to work with us. I think this is one of the moments that after 36 years in business, It’s still make makes me Hi.
I always think, new clients, New possibilities to create something exciting, more money and ultimately more work.
I think a few of the calls we get, is mostly from clients that loved the larger than life Event transformation we do.
They want to have hanging flowers from the ceiling, beautiful wall treatments, amazing table decor and dramatic lighting. etc.
Whenever I ask about the budgets, It’s usually so minimal, that It surprises me.
Unfortunately I have come to the sad realization, that most new clients have no clue, what things actually cost.
Mind you, this has nothing to do with, what they could get for less, they simply do not know about cost.
In this initial meeting, I usually take the liberty of explaining the cost for Transforming a space, in great detail.
And I am always so sadden when they come to the realization, that they can not have all of what they imagined.
I have learned from my planner and good friend Marcy Blum, that is best to tell them the truth up front, instead of leading them on.
I have also learned, that this kind of blunt honesty, have gotten me many new clients. They have told me that they have been to other vendors, that had told them that they could have it all, and how much the appreciated that I took the time to explain cost.
It’s my opinion that we should not waist our clients time, If the budget is not right for there dreams, we should be up front from the start and tell them.
