As many of you know, I will be opening my doors on July 26th and 27th for a weekend seminar focusing on moving your business into the luxury market. This is the second event in my PB & friends series, which focuses on mentorship and education. These two areas are deeply important to me, yet are often overlooked in today’s competitive market.
As a designer, I have learned from my own personal mistakes, as well as the ones I have witnessed around me. I remember what it was like to walk into a situation and wish that I had someone who could help guide me in the right direction. Even now, I still feel like that at times.
It is so important to me that I hire people who do not only add value to my design house through their expertise, but also to the daily round table discussions. Every morning and throughout the day, someone comes in seeking knowledge, be it me or one of our interns.
My amazing head of Global Planning & Client Services, Kathy Romero, touched upon this point on her blog yesterday. I wholeheartedly agree, it is a grave mistake to hoard knowledge. When you know, you grow, and when we all grow, the industry moves to new heights; we are all lifted and challenged and given new opportunities on every level.
To educate yourself is a sign of intelligence; to educate others, a sign of wisdom. Today, I want to ask you to think about what it is that you would like to learn from someone and what knowledge you have to share. Reach out and give someone a little bit of your time and share your journey; you may just change theirs in the process.
