When a planner brings you a client to design and create florals for a wedding, how do you feel if they deny you direct contact with the client ?
It used to drive me nuts because I am that person who loves to be in control. Until, I began to understand it from a planner’s point of view.
Let me start by saying that we should eliminate the word “planner” for good. I think, a better word to describe what a planner does is “director,” Yes folks, we should start calling all the planners “directors” just like in the movies. In my views, exactly that is what a planner does with each event; they sometimes direct a very complex project.
To plan or lead any event successfully, it is essential that a planner is highly aware of every single detail and conversation that takes place under their watch. The moment that a vendor starts talking directly with their clients, there could be many details that could get lost before these could reach the planner. And that might cause last minute dilemma on the wedding day.
Ultimately it’s the planners “show,” we as vendors are just the key players in a much bigger picture. It is out of my respect for my fellow planners that I communicate with my clients through them, even when a client hires me before hiring the planner.
How would you answer the above question?
