Dear Preston: What Are Three Things You Never Want To See At Weddings Again?

Dear Preston

Dear Preston:

At the risk of putting you on the spot, I wanted to ask you a question many in your position are afraid to answer: What are the three things you never want to see at a wedding again?

Dear Curious:

You are right. You are putting me on the spot because I have always thought that weddings should be about the bride and groom and what they like should always be respected, regardless of trends or the personal tastes of others (including my own).

That being said, being in the wedding and event business for 30 years has left me with more than three things that I try and discourage my brides from doing. Read on to see what they are.

At The Top Of This List Is: Cupcakes As wedding cakes. I recently has a couple who wanted it and I tried to design a different take on the concept of a cupcake, but in reality, I have seen way too many of these.

Second On The List: Guests taking the liberty of getting plastered with alcohol or any other type of drug.  There is a fine line between getting “fun drunk” and just plain messy to the point of being a nuisance.

Third On The List (This One Is a Bit Superficial): There are hotels and properties that have tablecloths that do not go all the way to the floor; this drives me nuts!  I like my tablecloths to fit properly on the table. I told you this was superficial.

I Know You Might Disagree With Me On This Last One, But I Am Over: Plexiglass chairs and tables (there I said it).  For a while there, I truly loved the direction of modern weddings,  however if I see one more cold-looking plexiglass element at a wedding I am going to scream.

Oh My God, I Forgot One More…Vintage themed weddings.  It’s time to bring back elegant, folks.

OK, folks, let’s have it; do you agree or disagree with me?

I also would love to get your opinion on what things would you like to see go at a wedding?
