Dear Preston: Can I Use Your Photos To Attract American Clients?

Dear Preston:

I live and work in Europe but have always set my sights on working in America.  At the moment, I am working on my website and have found that I need photos that will appeal to American clients.  I would like to ask for your permission to use some of your images for my site as I love your work.

Thank you in advance.

Dear Favor:

First, I would like to thank you very much for at least asking.  I have had other situations where other vendors borrow my images and claim the work as their own without so much as asking.

Now, I have one very important question for you: What happens if and when a potential client comes to you and asks for one of the designs from the images you borrowed?  Are you in a position to actually make the design? Can you make a profit?

I think this is a bad idea all-around.  I suggest that, instead of borrowing my work (or anyone else’s for that matter) and ask a photographer to photograph your next event. In my eyes, this is more honest. You’ll showcase your own talents without misleading anyone.

I am sorry, Favor.  I am going to have to say no on this one.
