I am currently in my office while my Protégé students listen to my head designer upstairs and I wanted to write all of you and tell you how proud I am of all of you. I am not speaking just about my students, but all of you who are working diligently to move into the direction of your dreams in spite of all of the challenges that inevitably come our way.
Yesterday’s letter in Dear Preston was very touching for me and served as a reminder of the many obstacles so many of us face as we push to be who we truly are. There are the well-intentioned loved ones who encourage us to move towards a more “stable” income source, those who don’t fully understand our lifestyle choices, those who go so far as to demean our work and passions (which can feel so terribly personal).
Today, I simply want to encourage all of you to stand a little taller and face down whatever molehill is pretending to be a mountain, having full and complete confidence in your ability to overcome whatever comes your way. You may not know what exactly to do, but you have everything inside of you–intellect, curiosity, drive, a network and opportunity–to figure it out. Don’t allow fear or failure or the projections of others convince you otherwise.
I know it can be hard to stay the course, but I know you’ll get there.
