I hope all of you are enjoying your Friday and those of you in the US who are preparing for a fun and relaxing Memorial Day weekend. Today, I wanted to take a few moments and discuss the topic of personal growth and self-respect and what it means to push yourself to meet your highest potential.
So often, we spend (waste) our time looking out at what someone else is doing and use that as fuel to push ourselves harder to “beat” them. What usually happens is we run out of steam or work using negativity as fuel. There is a big difference between being inspired and being determined to outdo someone else–that difference is intention.
When we wake up each day with the intention of being our best selves, personally and professionally, to giving our all to our work and those who share mental and physical space with us during that day and to doing what we can to end the day better than we started, we tend to feel more fulfilled, regardless of how many items were checked off of our to-do list or what our “ranking” might be. To give your best to others is wonderful, but it starts with giving our best to ourselves. What that means is really giving ourselves the best possible chance to live our best life.
Today, I want you to think about your goals and who and where you want to be. Then, ask yourself if your behavior, self talk and the way you speak to others is in line with those goals. Are your choices working for or against your goals?
If the answer is no, consider this your lucky day, for you have the power to change anything you want to at any time you feel like changing it. All you have to do is change your focus and take action.
