Up Close and Personal at NYFW With Ralph Lauren, Reem Acra and Noon by Noor.
September 9, 2014
I am often asked where I find my inspiration. While it’s mostly found in Mother Nature, I am also deeply moved by the design and artistry found in the fashion industry. Lucky for me, it’s Fashion Week here in New York City and the city is buzzing! To say I am being filled with inspiration would be a gross understatement.
This year, Mr. Ralph Lauren outdid himself with a technologically-advanced 4-D fashion show in Central Park. By using water and mist as natural projections allowed this outstanding designer a platform on which to launch his new Polo for women collection (and left the entire industry with tongues wagging). The collection is unlike anything the designer has done, placing the focus on more “downtown” and contemporary designs. Mr. Lauren has always been a wonderful designer, but I love that he’s moved out of his comfort zone and isn’t afraid to try something new.
My good friend, Reem Acra, did the impossible and managed to design a very vibrant and extremely sexy collection that showed lots of skin without looking trashy. On the contrary, these were some of the most elegant and sophisticated designs on the runway. Well done, Reem.
Then, I discovered Noon by Noor, one of the most young and exciting collections of them all. The collection was amazing, featuring amazing prints and textures in youthful, fresh and wearable designs. Their gift to guests was also one of the most interesting I have seen: Cookies by Eleni’s New York that featured images of the collection. They not only looked gorgeous, they tasted delicious. This is what I call thinking outside of the box (I do not like this expression at all, but it applies here).
I am truly looking forward to seeing the many other collections being showcased. In honor of New York Fashion Week, I would like to know who is your all time favorite designer, and why?
