REMINDER: WEDDING AND EVENT PLANNING BUSINESS FEARS

Many of you have probably been in the wedding and event industry business for a long time, but you can probably still remember what it felt like when you were just starting out: the beginning is exciting, but it’s also terrifying.
When I began my career as a florist I had three big fears that I’ll never forget:
1. I was afraid of not pleasing my clients.
2. I was afraid of not knowing what I was doing.
3. I was afraid of not getting new clients.
For today’s reminder post, I’d like to talk about dealing with the beginner’s jitters.
First and foremost, pleasing your clients is easier that you think. Just make sure they know you’re always trying your best. If at any point you don’t know the answer to one of their questions or concerns, just tell them you’ll get back to them as soon as possible. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, honesty is always the best course of action.
Second, not knowing what you’re doing can be a gift, especially for artists. Really. The moment you become “certain,” is the moment you stop growing as an artist. Think of yourself as a painter. Every painting begins with a blank canvas, and each new job you take on is also a blank canvas. This is wonderful! You should be eager to explore the possibilities for that blank canvas; anything is possible! If you want to be successful, you must embrace the unknown. The unknown has the power to be your greatest teacher.
Third, signing new clients is about being a giver. The trick is to convince potential clients that what you’re going to give them is worth more than what you’re charging. If you give clients the best service and the most exciting designs, you will never have to worry about securing new business.
My problem has always been that I’m impatient. I wanted the big, impressive clients immediately! But the truth is, I wanted them before I was ready for them. Things happen in due time. Patience is key to success.
The bottom line is that whether you’ve just signed your first client or your 500th client, you will always get the clients you deserve. Keep working on your skills, stay positive, remember the generosity of God, and the things you wish for your business and your art will come to you when you’ve earned them. I promise.
