My Opinion: Planners Do Not Get Paid Enough
June 27, 2016
Smart is the bride who knows that she should invest in a good planner. I was surprised to hear that many planners are having a very challenging time when it comes to charging what they are worth. Florists have flowers to show and caterers have food, but planners only have their time and expertise to show. I recently asked a few planners how much they charged and I was shocked by their responses. I am going to take the liberty of listing the quotes I heard (note: this is also affected by the complexity and size of the wedding).
New York: $15,000 to $25,000
Very experienced planners in NYC: $25,000 to $75,000
Nearly every other city ranged from $1,500 to $10,000
Though I do not condone planners charging commissions to their vendors, I am not surprised if they are tempted to do with what they make.after working their asses off. Now, keep in mind that most planners can work six months to a year on an event at times. This means hours and hours of meetings, e-mails, hand holding and much more way before the actual wedding. There is also the 18 hour day most planners work the day of the event. I don’t know about you, but in my opinion, they should get more money.
How do you feel about this? What is your opinion?
