My First Theatrical Transformation: Designing a Set for a Theatre
October 7, 2014
One of my dreams has always been to design the stage and set in a cool, downtown space here in New York. It so happens that I am married to a Grammy-nominated singer and performer. When we were invited to transform SubCulture (one of the coolest spaces in the city) for an evening where design meets theatre and music, I was thrilled.
My husband, Theo Bleckmann, has one of the most powerful and emotional voices I have ever heard. Even after being together for eight years, I still cry like a fool every time I hear him sing. The only problem with being partners with a performer is that he is always some place around the globe; he is practically on tour all year!
For the very first time in my life, I am getting the opportunity to direct and transform this jewel of a theatre into a Preston Bailey event setting where the amazing musical talent of my husband will be showcased.
I am both nervous and very excited to be doing this for the first time. All who know me know that I love a challenge and this is one I am very pleased to have the chance to (hopefully) rise to.
We will be at the space for two nights, October 17th and 18th. I would love it if you would join us for this celebration. I will try my best, but please remember that this is my first theatre transformation for a show.
Will we see you there?
