Kathy’s Blog: Three Things That Will Change Everything
August 27, 2015
While in a discussion with a colleague, I was asked to share what skills I believed were applicable and beneficial to everyone from student to manager. I thought this was worth writing about and wanted to share a few with you today.
Be Brave: If there is one thing I’ve learned in this business is that your life unfolds in proportion our courage and attitude. Everything from our words and tone to our body language and use of personal space plays a huge role in the way others respond to us. Our clients, colleagues, family members and even strangers respond directly to what they receive from us which means it’s worth it to be cognizant of the way we portray our personality.
Stay Both Humble and Curious: We work in a competitive and ever-expanding business and it’s not uncommon to feel the urge to showcase your knowledge and experience. I am a big believer in owning your talents but doing so in a way that allows room for growth and mentorship. When we ask questions and see conversations as exchanges of information, everyone comes out a winner. I’ve said in previous blogs that no one cares what you know unless they know you care–about them, their talents, their needs and their goals.
Finally, recommit to the things that truly matter in your life. Have the courage to establish priorities and create habits that will allow you to be a better person all around. This will not only prove useful in your personal life, it will also increase the chances of you new and welcomed opportunities in your professional life.
With a Happy Heart,
