In Memory Of My Sister Aminta Bailey Duncan, A Lover of Flowers

 Aminta Bailey Duncan

 1943 -2015

Dear Readers:

It was with great sadness that I laid my beloved sister, Aminta, to rest yesterday. As you can see, she was  a great lover of flowers like me. My sister was the matriarch of our family, and with her death, I feel we are losing a great part of our history.

Aminta was not only an amazing woman, but a terrific cook. She would cook the most elaborate meals for all of our family gatherings, including our Thanksgiving dinner. She leaves behind two daughters and a son, and four beautiful grandchildren.

When I first came to New York from Panama, she was the one that met me at the airport and mothered me. She was also the person responsible for getting me my first job as a young boy. As I try to go back to work today I feel that my entire world has shifted. I am that sure all of you who has lost a love one knows exactly how I am feeling.  I want to say that I never would have been able to manage this painful time in my life without the support and help of all of those around me, especially my staff.

To: Luiz, Nadine, Brenda, Kelly, Kathy, Junior, Oscar, Eduardo, Pedro, and Kay: You all went far and above the call of duty.  Thank you for picking me up in these very difficult times.  I shall be forever grateful.

I would also like to thank all of you in the industry who have sent your many condolences and the many of you who came to the funeral yesterday.

To my dear sister: your guidance as a sister and a mother has encouraged me to live a life of integrity. Your entire life was spent as a firm believer in God.  You lived your life for this moment when you would get to rejoice in his eternal love.

Sleep well Aminta and thank you for being my sister.
