Dear Readers:

I am always very careful when designing the bouquets for my brides. If there is one thing I have learned, it is always to show them a sample of the bouquet long before they walk down the aisle. This was a lesson I learned the hard way. Many years ago, I told a bride that I was designing something very special for her bridal bouquet. To make a long story short, her wedding day arrived and I handed over her “special bouquet” and she started crying. I was over-the-moon with happiness until I realized the tears stemmed from her hatred of my creation! Lesson learned, no more surprises.

In today’s Designing With Flowers, I would like to pose to all of you a question that I constantly get from my brides. Should a bride have an all-white bouquet or one that highlights her favorite colors? When asked, I have always maintained that the bride should do as she pleases. That said, I am beginning to change my mind about this.

While looking back through some of my archives, there was a time when I loved doing colorful bridal bouquets, and my brides seemed to love them too. Unfortunately, photos caution against it. The first thing I notice in the photo is not the bride’s beautiful gown, but the bright colors of her bouquet. White bouquets, however, tend to blend beautifully.

I have shared that info with many of my new brides and they have all decided to forgo color and opt for an all-white bouquet on their wedding day. Do you agree with me? Do you prefer an all-white bridal bouquet or a bouquet with wonderful colors? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
