I don’t understand, why should I pay my full floral and hotel bill weeks before my wedding? What happens if my florist or hotel does not deliver? What happens if I am not pleased with my floral arrangements?
You are not the very first bride to ask me this question. Before I address your concern, I have one question for you. What happens if for some reason, you decide not to pay your bill?
You must understand from a vendor’s point of view; there is a huge investment of time, resources, flowers, and talent that goes into executing the flowers and designs for your wedding. It’s not only difficult but also impossible for a florist to run the risk of not getting paid in full. And the same applies to the hotels.
Once that said, I would like you to keep in mind the advice that I am about to share with you before hiring your florist:
A. Make sure that this company has been around for at least five years.
B. Make sure that you have a full detail presentation of exactly what you are getting. This way there are no last moment surprises.
C. Make sure that you get feedback from previous clients about this company.
Many years ago, I used to have a contract that allowed clients to pay 30% of the decor after the wedding, which I quickly had to change. Some clients would find a fault; unnecessary picking on one thing or another with the event, taking that as an excuse for not to pay the remaining balance.
I am so sorry that you are confused in this matter, but this is very standard payment term in the event industry.
Are you comfortable in asking for a partial payment after the event?
Do you think, it’s fair to ask for full payment two weeks before the event? (after all, you do not want last minute bounce checks)
