Behind-The-Scenes: What Is Most Important To You In Design
May 27, 2015
Having just returned from the Biz Bash Elevate conference, I am feeling more humbled and inspired than ever; what a group of wonderfully talented and engaging artists came together this year! I want to thank all of you so much for taking time out of your busy week to join me for my presentation and for your generous comments after the event in person and on social media,
One of the attendees asked me an interesting question that I wanted to address today. He asked, “What do you feel creates the “luxury” feeling in floral design?” My answer was simple; the flowers. I know, it may sound obvious, but let me explain. I have always believed flowers to be Mother Nature’s greatest gift to us. They delight, they console, they seduce, cheer and bring a sense of peace with their meditative qualities. Their vibrancy, fragrances (though not often enjoyed in larger events) and their unique shapes and buds make them couture in nature in my eyes.
When looking at the past 35 years in this business, I have seen a lot of “trends” come and go. I have seen many designers come and go with them. The ones who have stayed and soared are the ones who not only stayed true to themselves, but their initial passions. Time has warned against being so in awe of the “extra’s” that I disregard the foundation of what is most valuable to me, in design, in life.
Today, I want all of you to think about what you value most in your designs and how close you have stayed to it. I would love it if you would share your thoughts with us.
